From Mine to Markets: Financing Africa’s Critical Minerals Through U.S. Capital

Why this convening
Where Africa’s resources meet U.S. capital
The global transition to clean energy, advanced manufacturing and secure supply chains runs through Africa. The continent holds a substantial share of the world’s copper, cobalt, lithium, manganese, uranium, tantalum and platinum-group metals — yet the capital required to finance, process and bring these resources to market at scale has too often stayed on the sidelines.
The moment is different now. The U.S. government has identified critical minerals as an essential area of investment for national security and for the onshoring of domestic technology and advanced manufacturing — from semiconductors and defense systems to batteries and the electric grid. Securing diversified, reliable sources of these minerals, and the processing capacity behind them, has become a stated priority across administrations and agencies.
U.S. public markets have responded. Critical minerals have been one of the most active sectors for SPAC mergers, with combinations that have raised significant capital and created listed vehicles for acquisitions that drive scale across mining, processing and refining. For African resource companies and their government partners, that is a proven pathway to the depth of capital the sector requires.
This forum brings the two sides of that equation into one room during UNGA week: the leaders who set policy in resource-rich African nations, and the sponsors, underwriters, institutional investors and counsel who move capital through U.S. public markets.
Investors will leave with a credible, first-hand read on where the opportunities — and the risks — reside in some of the continent’s most dynamic economies. African leaders leave with direct relationships to the capital and expertise needed to finance value addition at home.
